Standing at the Depot

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”- Romans 12:2

I was listening to Paul Wright this morning, his song “Heaven”. The lyrics state “I want to know what it’s like to live in Heaven”. Are you wondering what it is like? Are you being conformed to this world or to Heaven? When I moved to the Western US, I prepared by buy the right clothes and learned about the area and the people that live there. Are you doing this? Are you learning about Heaven and the Lord? That is where we are going and that is where we are going to live forever. His song continues “’cause we don’t belong here forever, no, no we don’t belong here.” Where do you belong? Do you belong in Heaven? Are you acting like a citizen of Heaven? Are you acting like one of the folks here on the earth that is not going onto Heaven?
Where are you going? How are you acting?
I have thought about this a lot and think that our homes should be a depot for going to Heaven. How do we act at the depot? Is it a place that is peaceful with a touch of excitement? When I travel, I think about the best “depots” I have been in and they are peaceful, orderly and have a touch of excitement because I am going somewhere that is new and exciting. I am working on making our home that way. We are encouraging all those that enter our door to leave there cares at the door (I am making a “trouble box” to put just outside the door). You can write the worries and struggles of the day on a note card and place them in the box. At the end of the week the notes will be prayed over and placed in the fire. The notes won’t be read but will be offered up to the Lord. As the notes of concerns, stuggles and worries burn and the smoke rises from the fire, I think of how those have all been offered up in prayer. These “problems” vanish from our hearts like the smoke into the air. I trust that the Lord will honor this effort and make our home a “depot” for all those who enter.
